What is Perlite? Perlite is formed from volcanic glass that is heated to over 900°C causing it to expand up to 20 times its original size — similar to popcorn. The result is ultra-lightweight, sterile, white porous particles that dramatically improve soil drainage and aeration without adding weight. It is pH neutral, sterile, non-toxic and completely safe for all plants including edible crops and seedlings.

How To Use

For Pots and Containers:

• Add 1-2 handfuls every 15 days and mix lightly into soil
• Or mix 20-30% perlite into your potting mix at the time of potting

For Garden Beds:

• Apply 1-2 kg per square meter
• Mix into the topsoil before planting for improved drainage

For Seedlings:

• Mix with potting soil before planting
• Recommended ratio: 20-30% perlite in seed starting mix
• Prevents damping off and improves germination rates

For Hydroponics:

• Use pure perlite as a standalone growing medium
• Or mix with cocopeat in a 50:50 ratio for semi-hydroponic systems

Vermiculite retains more moisture making it better for moisture-loving plants and seedlings.
